TEAM:
Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL)
PLAYER: Mario Lemieux
STYLE: Home
YEAR: 2000-01 & 2001-02
SIZE: 56
MANUFACTURER: CCM
FABRIC: Air-knit
NOTES: Captain's "C" sewn to left chest. "1600 POINT" written on collar tag in black sharpie. "1600 Point VS L.A. Kings" also written in black sharpie inside the jersey behind the crest. NHL shield embroidered on rear hem. CCM logo sewn above nameplate.
Great wear throughout with tons of stick marks, a few nice board burns, loose stitching around the collar, and even an unrepaired hole.
This amount of wear is rarely seen on jerseys from the latter stages of Mario's career. LOA from Penguins Chronicles (Casey Samuelson).
The jersey has been photo-matched to game photos from the playoffs of Mario's comeback season of 2000-01 in which it has not yet had the captain's "C" added. (Jaromir Jagr continued wearing it throughout that season.)
One of the photo-matches shows Mario celebrating his well-known "Immaculate Deflection" goal in the final minute of Game 6 of the second round against Buffalo. The jersey has also been video-matched to that game. Other photo-matches date to the 2001 Eastern Conference Final playoff series vs. New Jersey, making this Mario's last home playoff jersey.
Additionally, the jersey has been photo-matched to over a dozen photos from nearly every home game that Mario played in
during the 2001-02 season. Ironically, photo evidence indicates that Mario switched to a different jersey for the
February 27, 2002 game vs. L.A. in which he scored his 1,600 point.
(That game was also his last of the season due to injury.) Therefore, it appears that this
jersey was mismarked by the Pens' equipment manager.
